Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure using a
very fine small needle to inject a sclerosing solution into the veins
called telangiectasias ("spider-veins") and venulectasia
on the legs. Venulectasia is the name for bluish looking veins (venules)
that are smaller in size than varicose veins.
Sclerotherapy has been used to treat spider veins since the 1930's. Depending
on the size of the telangiectasias , treatment may require one to several
treatment sessions. When the sclerosing solution is injected into the
vein, the lining of the vein becomes irritated and collapses. The vein
is then dissolved by the body. Patients return to their normal activity
with minimal restrictions.
Well Known Nationally-Recognized
Physician, Dr. Suarez, teaches Physicians and Allied Health Professionals
who are interested in the field of Cosmetic Phlebology a very Comprehensive
Intense One-Day Course on Sclerotherapy.
Program Overview
A close examination for cosmetic
interventions in the patient with reticular and telangiectatic veins of
the low extremity. Perspectives on the mechanisms underlying these conditions,
providing the clinician with the tools necessary to successfully manage
the different clinical presentations. The purpose of this educational
activity is to review the minimal invasive interventions associated with
sclerotherapy and ambulatory phlebectomy.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program,
the Student should be able to:
- Expand current practice to include sub specialty services of Sclerotherapy
- Recognize importance of various Sclerotherapy procedures.
- Discuss medical protocols to treat leg veins using sclerotherapy,
injection
techniques, endovenous radiofrequency and laser, ambulatory phlebectomy.
- Understand relative anatomy and physiology of Telangiectasia, venulectasia
- Identify when to perform specific diagnostic studies.
- Classify telangiectasias according to size and appearance
- Know the contraindications and warnings prior to treatment
- Describe specific techniques.
- Plan safe preparation and dilution of Sclerotherapy medications.
- Strategies for prevention.
